State climate change expert speaking in Carbondale

CARBONDALE ” The top Colorado official working on climate change issues will be speaking at the Roaring Fork High School in Carbondale on May 5, sponsored by Tomorrow’s Voices.
Heidi VanGenderen is Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter’s senior advisor on climate change and energy policy, and represents the governor’s Office of Policy and Initiatives. She was appointed to the post in May 2007 and helps coordinate policies. She is part of
Ritter’s avowed goal of creating a “new energy economy” for the state.
She will speak on the governor’s preliminary Colorado Climate Action Plan, which was recently released by Ritter’s office.
The community is invited to the address, which is the final event of the Tomorrow’s Voices series and will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the “auditeria.”
Tomorrow’s Voices “works with students, educators and the public to inspire young people to believe in the power of their civic voice,” according to a statement issued by the organization.
In addition to classes, teacher trainings, and curriculum consulting, the local nonprofit ” now in its seventh year ” hosts public lecture series at various venues throughout the valley.
