ASPEN – World Cup skiing will return to Aspen Mountain on Nov. 26-27, with women’s giant slalom and slalom races.

The International Ski Federation (FIS) has confirmed dates for five U.S. resorts for the 2011-12 season, including Aspen, Beaver Creek and Telluride in Colorado, Deer Valley in Utah and Lake Placid, N.Y. The Aspen women’s races over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend will be followed promptly by men’s downhill, super G and giant slalom at Beaver Creek on Dec. 2-4.

The Audi FIS Alpine World Cup opens Oct. 22-23 with the traditional glacier races in Soelden, Austria, and closes with World Cup finals in Schladming, Austria, on March 14-18, 2012.

As for the other U.S. events, Telluride will host the FIS LG Snowboard World Cup for the third consecutive year, on Dec. 14-17. The event will feature a parallel GS event as well as a season opener for boardercross. Freestyle competition returns to Lake Placid on Jan. 19-21 and Deer Valley on Feb. 2-4.

“Our World Cup events are the ultimate showcase for our athletes,” said Luke Bodensteiner, U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association executive vice president, athletics, in a press release. “They’re an opportunity for our athletes to compete on the home field and at our nation’s best venues, in front of American fans and viewers.”

Each of the U.S. stops will be broadcast nationally and to millions of viewers worldwide.
