Tuesday benefit will honor, aid John Lassalette’s recovery

Aspen Times Staff

In celebration of local John Lassalette’s continued recovery from a serious rugby incident this summer, a party is being held in his honor on Tuesday night at Belly Up, from 6-10 p.m.In an effort to help John and his family with the bills incurred for the price of rehabilitation, friend Allison Daily is asking for people to attend Tuesday. The festivities include a silent auction and music from the band Jes Grew. A cover donation of $25 will include a glass of wine and light appetizers. There will also be an open bar. John, a father of two daughters, an Aspen attorney and five-year member of Aspen’s Old Boys, sustained an injury to the C-3 vertebrae in his neck while going in for a tackle in a game against Boulder on Saturday, July 16. For several months he was a resident at the Craig Spinal Cord Injury Clinic. Longtime Gents player and coach Mark Williams told the Aspen Times on July 19 that “[John is] a tough customer, he’s a guy who’s gonna bounce back.” Lassalette is showing signs of improvement. He has returned home and is slowly regaining movement and muscle control. He is walking with the assistance of a walker and even addressed friends and fans during September’s Ruggerfest. If you have any questions about the event or are interested in donating an item for auction, please contact Chip Seaman (274-4114) or Allison Daily (925-7102).
