The Aspen High School boys hockey team started the new season with a road win Friday night.

The Skiers scored a 4-3 victory over Summit High School in a game played at the ice rink in Breckenridge.

"The effort was very strong," Aspen head coach Al Butler said. "The defense played well, and our forwards played well, too."

The Skiers scored first in the opening period and held the lead throughout. At one point, Aspen led 3-1.

"The first two periods we played really well," Butler said. "In the third period, it was not as strong as previously."

Kai Cathers score twice for the Skiers (1-0) in the opening game of the season.
