Danny Davis, POWDR team up for ‘Woodward Peace Park’ in VT, CA
January 22, 2019
SUMMIT COUNTY — Two of the snowboarding and freeskiing world's most boundary-pushing entities have teamed up to launch what they hope will be a first-of-its-kind experience. It'll be one for both elite and everyday shredders who want to push the sport's progression.
Ski resort operator Powdr Corp, which owns Copper Mountain Resort, and professional American snowboarder Danny Davis, the founder of Peace Park, have teamed up to launch what they've dubbed "Woodward Peace Park."
The partnership essentially brings Davis' Peace Park concept under Powdr's portfolio and expands it via Woodward's progressive sports facilities located at several Powdr ski resorts. Powdr operates Woodward facilities at ski resorts across the United States, including at Copper Mountain, Boreal Mountain Resort in California and Killington Ski Resort in Vermont.
"Woodward Peace Park builds on Danny's legacy while also incorporating Woodward's focus on self-directed learning, fun and progression," Woodward officials said on the Peace Park's site, which launched Tuesday. "Woodward Peace Parks are built for riders of all sizes and ability levels with something for everyone. Woodward Peace Park transcends standard slopestyle and halfpipes, has more flow, transition, room to breathe and options for creative expression."
Peace Park was originally founded by the multi-time X Games gold medalist Davis in 2011 as a new type of riding experience for elite athletes like him who had grown tired of traditional competition formats and courses. Davis' Peace Park reinvented the freestyle terrain he rode with a focus on fun and flow as well as progression. As recently as 2017, Davis recruited a collection of the world's most talented snowboarders, such as 2018 Olympic gold medalist Red Gerard of Summit County, to ride on a Peace Park course at Grand Targhee Resort in Wyoming.
As conditions permit, the new Woodward Peace Parks will be open every day at Killington Ski Resort in Vermont and at Boreal Mountain in California beginning in mid-February. Speaking Tuesday, Copper Mountain spokeswoman Taylor Prather said there are currently no concrete plans to bring Peace Park to Woodward Copper, though Copper is hopeful that the new relationship between Davis and Woodward will expand across Powdr's portfolio of resorts after its initial launch.

"Powdr's commitment to progressing athletes the Woodward way and to inspiring participation in the adventure lifestyle was a natural draw," Davis said in a statement Tuesday. "Woodward Peace Park will expand access to more creative, progressive and cutting-edge terrain. It's awesome that Woodward Peace Park is an evolution that's for the people, not just the pros."
Powdr resorts will provide access to the Peace Parks with a regular lift ticket or season pass to the mountains. Powdr and Davis will also host a Woodward Peace Park Championships later this year at Boreal Mountain from May 1-5. At the event, Woodward and Davis will unveil a five-day-only custom-built course, designed and built in collaboration with Snow Park Technologies and the Boreal and Woodward Tahoe teams. Snow Park Technologies designed and built the atypical modified superpipe and slopestyle course designs that athletes like Davis and Gerard competed on at last month's Dew Tour at Breckenridge Ski Resort.
The May event at Boreal Mountain will also be the first Peace Park competition to include a women's category and a user-generated #MyPeaceParkEdit video contest for open rider and skier contestant qualification. To qualify for the Woodward Peace Park Championships, Woodward and Davis are asking participants to submit up to a one-minute edit of him or herself riding one of the Woodward Peace Parks using the #MyPeaceParkEdit hashtag. The winner will be announced in early April and will receive an expense-paid trip to the championships.
