The legendary Colorado Avalanche-Detroit Red Wings rivalry will add a new chapter Saturday night in Aspen.

Former stars from both NHL teams will hit the ice at the Lewis Ice Arena at the Aspen Recreation Center (ARC) in a benefit for the Aspen Junior Hockey scholarship program.

The hockey game is part of the Stirling Cup All-Star Weekend in Aspen. The Stirling Golf Classic is planned for Sunday at the Aspen Golf and Tennis Club.

The alumni hockey game is set for 5 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Ice Arena at the Aspen Recreation Center (ARC).

“There will be some big-name stars here for the game,” said Shaun Hathaway, director of Aspen Junior Hockey, declining to mention specific players who might be here. He said exact lineups willl not be known until game time.

“This is a tremendous way to start the season,” Hathaway said.

“Obviously, this event is critical for fundraising,” he said, adding that the benefit will help Aspen Junior Hockey keep the scholarship program active and growing.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children under 13.

As part of the weekend benefit, the Stirling Cup Golf Classic will be played Sunday, Sept. 28, at the Aspen Golf Club.

Singles can register for $250. Foursomes can register for $1,000.
