Golfer makes hole-in-one at Aspen benefit tourney

Aspenite Andy Godfrey shot a hole-in-one Sunday at the Stirling Cup benefit golf tournament. He won a two-year lease on a Range Rover SUV and a special plaque of the Titleist golf ball he used.He made the shot, on the 175-yard third hole of the Aspen Golf Course, with an 8-iron. The ball, Godfrey said, dropped within 10 feet of the hole, “hopped once and rolled in.”Jody Cooper, honorary chairwoman of the golf tournament, said this was the first such feat in the five years of the tournament. Cooper said the annual tournament, which is named for her late husband, Stirling, benefits the Aspen Junior Hockey Club, the Aspen Soccer Club and the Aspen Valley Ski Club.Godfrey, 39, said it was his second hole-in-one. The first, he said, was in 1994 at the Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington, R.I.Land Rover Roaring Fork in Glenwood Springs, which has been working with Cooper and the tournament since its inception, donated the Range Rover.
