Colter Zwieg leads Aspen boys golf to win in Steamboat Springs
Another day, another win for the Aspen High School boys golf team. The Skiers won their sixth tournament of the season Thursday, taking a meet hosted by Steamboat Springs at Haymaker Golf Course.
And for the seventh time in seven tournaments, it was an Aspen golfer who finished as low medalist. Thursday it was senior Colter Zwieg, who shot a 4-under-par 68 to beat junior teammate Jack Pevny by a shot.
AHS also finished 1-2 on Wednesday in Craig, when Jack Hughes won with Pevny again taking second.
Zwieg was 4-under after nine holes on Thursday in Steamboat, and after a birdie-eagle run got to a commanding 7-under.
"It was a pretty interesting round," Zwieg said. "Coach Don (Buchholz) followed me for my last four holes, trying to keep me at 7-under. I went par-par and then there was this par 3 and I hit it over the green and hit a chip back that went into the water and ended up making a triple to get back to 4-under, and then finished bogey-birdie to finish 4-under."

Zwieg became the fourth different Skier to win a tournament this season. All six of Aspen's varsity players have shot under par at some point this fall.
"It could have been better, but I'll take 68 every time I go out," Zwieg said.
Jack Hughes and Dominic Lanese each finished at 5-over and tied for 11th. Dawson Holmes was another shot back with Nic Pevny.
Aspen only has two more regular-season tournaments, next being a trip to Dos Rios in Gunnison on Wednesday before going to Keystone Ranch on Thursday. The Sept. 17 regional will also be held at Dos Rios, giving the Skiers a chance to preview the course.
