Basalt girls soccer crushes Olathe
April 2, 2003
The Basalt High girls soccer team walked all over Olathe Thursday in an 11-3 blowout on the road.
Mariah Mulcahy scored a hat trick for the Lady Longhorns while Ashley Eaton had two goals and three assists, and Meghan Stewart also contributed a pair of goals.
Basalt, which opened the season with an 8-0 rout of Vail Mountain, improved to 2-0 on the season with yesterday’s win.
“We looked OK,” said Basalt coach Heather Walker. “This was our first game with our whole team together, so we have some things to work on – like just working on getting used to being out there together – but everybody played hard.”
Brittany Pollack, Ukare Sano, Zoe Pratte and Sofie Stenstadzold all scored one goal apiece for Basalt.
Last season, the Basalt girls advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class 3A state tournament, finishing with a 14-2 record overall.

On Thursday, Basalt hosts the larger, Class 5A Grand Junction Central at 4 p.m. and on Saturday Basalt hosts league rival Eagle Valley at 11 a.m.
“We’ll be able to tell where we’re at for sure on Thursday,” Walker said of the Grand Junction Central game.
“But we still probably won’t even have our starting lineup set for another five games. We just got eight players back from the basketball team. But we’re used to it, though. It’s been like that every year, it just takes a couple games to get back together.”
