Aspen volleyball, Rye head to Faith Christian for Friday’s 3A regional

The Aspen High School volleyball team is headed to Denver for its Class 3A Region 3 tournament on Friday. The Skiers received the No. 34 seed when the regional pairings were announced Monday and will play in a three team, round robin tournament hosted by No. 3 seed Faith Christian in Arvada.

No. 22 seed Rye is the other team in the pod.

Faith Christian (18-5 overall) was ranked No. 3 in Class 3A as of the Oct. 23 poll and has been a steady force on the court for years. Rye is 14-10 entering the postseason while Aspen is 13-6.

This is Aspen's first postseason appearance since playing in the district tournament in 2011. AHS is on track to finish the season above .500 for the first time since going 12-10 in 2008.

Friday's regional at Faith Christian begins at 4 p.m. when Aspen plays the host team. Rye and Aspen then play at 5:30 p.m., with Faith Christian and Rye finishing the night with a match at 7 p.m.

The regional winner will advance to the 12-team state tournament.
