Aspen Triathlon set for Saturday
June 10, 2011
ASPEN – Triathletes ranging from rookies to veterans will get after it Saturday in Aspen.
The Aspen Triathlon will be comprised of an 800-yard indoor pool swim at the Aspen Recreation Center, 17-mile bike ride, and 4-mile run.
The swim will consist of 32 lengths in the ARC’s 25-yard pool, with the first heat beginning at 7:30 a.m. The heats will be broken into 20-minute increments.
Next, athletes will hop on their bikes for a ride to and from the Maroon Bells. The bike leg starts at the ARC and covers 17 miles with a 1,500 vertical-feet ride to the Bells.
After the bike ride, triathletes will take a 4-mile run that begins and ends at the ARC.
There’s also a duathlon that starts at 7:40 a.m. The race begins with a 2-mile run on a paved path and dirt trail, while the bike course will take the same ride as the triathlon – from the ARC to the Bells and back. After the ride, participants will run another 4 miles, from the ARC and around the Aspen Golf Club and back to the ARC.
