Aspen Leafs win girls 2014 Fall Faceoff title

The Aspen Leafs U19 girls hockey team wrapped up the annual Fall Faceoff Tournament with a championship victory last weekend.
After two weekends of boys youth hockey tournaments over the last two weekends, the girls took to the ice in Aspen this time around.
The Aspen Leafs U19 girls won the title with a 5-0 championship victory over Steamboat Springs.
After falling to the Denver Lady Rough Riders in the second game of pool play, the Aspen Leafs put together an impressive run, outscoring their opponents 27-7 through the rest of the tournament.
Cally Erickson led the team and tournament in scoring with 14 points (7 goals, 7 assists).
Brook Pisani finished second with 11 points (8 goals, 3 assists), and Caroline Godfrey finished third with 10 points (8 goals, 2 assists).

In her first season with the U19 team, goaltender Sonya Benson finished the weekend with a solid 1.50 goals-against average and one shutout.
An impressive defensive performance helped limit opponents to only 9.8 shots per game.
Head coach Elizabeth Severy was all smiles after collecting another Fall Faceoff title, her first as a coach.
"It was so fun to see the girls come together as a team in their first weekend of hockey," Severy said. "This is a fantastic group of hard-working players, and I'm really looking forward to the rest of the season."
The 2014 Fall Faceoff officially concluded after the U19 girls hoisted the championship banner Sunday afternoon.
In three weekends, Aspen Junior Hockey hosted 77 teams from Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and New Mexico.
Games were played at the Lewis Ice Arena at the Aspen Recreation Center (ARC) and the Aspen Ice Garden.
