Aspen High girls golf sixth

Dolores Sharaf led the Aspen High School girls golf team at the annual Montrose Invitational this week.

Played at Cobble Creek under sunny skies with warm temperatures, the Skiers finished sixth in the regional qualifying tournament.

The course, a par 72, measured 5,177 yards.



Twenty-one teams and a total of 79 players competed.

Sharaf and teammates Julia Budsey, Nikki Blizzard, Julia Fahy and Katy Miller combined to take sixth with a 277.




Montrose won with a 265.

Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction tied at 267.

Iselya Plewe of Dolores High School won the medalist honors with a 73.

Lauren Murphy of Glenwood Springs shot a 76. Rifle’s Elly Walters was third with an 80.

Sharf was next with 81.

Budsey shot 90.

Blizzard carded a 106. Fahy shot 111 and Miller added a 119.

“This was our first stroke-play event of the year and the first time the girls were able to actually practice off of grass,” said Aspen head coach Don Buchholz. “I commend their performance and look forward to continuing a great season.”

The Aspen girls golf team will resume play April 6 at the Central Invitational at Tiara Rado in Grand Junction.

On April 9, the Skiers will play in the Coal Ridge Invitational at Lakota Canyon in New Castle.

The Skiers will host the Aspen Invitational on April 24 at River Valley Ranch in Carbondale.
