Aspen High football falls to Cedaredge 42-0

Aspen Times Staff Report

Though the offense showed signs of life, including nine first downs, the Aspen High football team lost its fourth straight game of the season Friday 42-0 at Cedaredge.

Aspen’s offense managed to put together several strong drives in the first half “that wound up on the one-inch line,” said coach Tom Goode, “but we just couldn’t pound it in.

“I think we shocked ?em a bit because they were expecting to roll over us,” he added.

Cedaredge, the best team Aspen has seen since it revived the varsity program this fall, punched in two touchdowns in the first half to go up 14-0.

“Offensively, we were really moving the football well, but come third quarter, they were too big and strong and we just couldn’t contain them,” Goode said. “They were running all over us with their Delaware Wing-T offense.”

Aspen running back Lange Adams was having the finest game of his career, including four carries for 65 yards, until he suffered a broken fibula (shin). “It’s too bad,” the coach said. “He’s out for the season, but fortunately he’ll be back for the ski season. They think it’s a hairline fracture.

“Every game in front of us is going to be a challenge to keep these guys’ spirits up and the program going,” he said. “We’ve got to keep reminding them that it’s good for the program in the long run, try to keep it fun and keep looking forward.”
