Aspen, Basalt well-represented on all-league teams in soccer, baseball

Aspen’s Fuentes, Rybak, Basalt’s Torres named all-league in baseball

The Aspen High School baseball team had two players earn first team all-league honors. Senior pitcher Jamison Fuentes, an Adams State University signee, and senior utility player Tom Rybak earned the recognition. Fuentes went 7-3 on the mound this spring with a 2.61 earned-run average.

Earning honorable mention all-league honors for AHS baseball are senior infielder Sam Dresser, senior catcher Charlie Guilander and senior utility player Miles McConnell.



Basalt High School senior Raul Torres earned first-team recognition after leading the Longhorns in both hits and runs. BHS junior Trevor Reuss was all-league honorable mention. Both Torres and Fuentes have been nominated for all-state honors, to be announced at a later date.

AHS senior Chelsea Moore named league player of the year in soccer




Aspen High School senior Chelsea Moore was named the league player of the year, while five of her teammates also earned postseason honors. Moore, who plays in the midfield, helped orchestrate a remarkable run for the AHS girls soccer team in the Class 3A state tournament, which ended with a 1-0 loss to eventual state champion Jefferson Academy in the semifinals.

Moore had a team-high 14 assists to go with three goals for the Skiers, which finished the season 14-4 overall.

Joining Moore on the all-league first team are freshman Kelley Francis, who broke the school’s single-season scoring record with 32 goals this spring, and sophomore Maeve McGuire, who was second on the team with 10 goals.

Earning honorable-mention all-league honors for Aspen are junior Margo McHugh, junior Emily Brenniger and sophomore Payton Curley.

Basalt High School had two players named to the all-league teams. Earning first team honors is sophomore Emma Day, who matched standout freshman Delaney Card with a team-high 20 goals this season. Day also led the Longhorns with 11 assists.

BHS sophomore Caitlin Coon was named all-league honorable mention. Basalt finished the season 11-5-1 overall, losing to eventual state runner-up Kent Denver in the second round of the 3A tournament.

ASPEN BOYS AND GIRLS LACROSSE LOAD UP ON ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS

Both the Aspen High School boys and girls lacrosse teams are well represented on the Mountain Conference’s postseason teams.

The AHS boys had six players named first team all-conference in 4A. That list includes seniors Finn Allen (defense), Jordan Hornburg (attack), R.J. Peshek (midfield), Liam Rigney (defense), sophomore Trey Fabrocini (midfield) and freshman Tyler Ward (midfield).

Hornburg and Ward each finished with a team-high 35 goals this spring, leading the Skiers to an undefeated league title and a trip to the 4A state semifinals, where they lost to eventual state champion Cheyenne Mountain. Hornburg also led the team with 27 assists.

Earning second team all-conference honors were seniors Rob Francis and Keaton Young, and sophomores Robbie Fitzgerald and Logan Soderberg.

The AHS girls had four players named first team. That list includes senior Jane Marolt, junior Kate Citron, sophomore Charlotte Howie and freshman Kylie Kenny. Earning second team all-conference honors are seniors Jordan Fox, Caroline Moriarty, and juniors Livi Carr and Sabrina Turbidy.

In her first season leading the Skiers, Amanda Trendell was named the conference coach of the year. The Skiers went 12-4 overall and were undefeated in league play. After beating Air Academy in the first round of the state tournament, No. 13 AHS lost at No. 4 Regis Jesuit in the round of 16.
