Special place needs your vote
Dear Editor:Aspen is a special place. Aspen and the Roaring Fork, the Fryingpan, the Castle, Maroon and Hunter Creek valleys, the historic towns of Independence, Ashcroft, Lenado, the old mining camps … all add to the fabric of our “special place.” Research shows that we choose a place (or, I sometimes think, it chooses us) because its history, its feel, its current lifestyles resonate with something within us. Most of us are here because we choose to be here. To know and understand ourselves, we must know and understand those who came before us. If we can understand their hopes and dreams and lives, we might understand the value of “place” and choice of place, and need for care of special places. The Aspen Historical Society is the agency that preserves and protects those historic resources that we all cherish and that give meaning to our lives here. Protection of lives lived and lessons learned is critical to the health of our community. Give up one latte or one dinner out and support the proposed Historic Parks and Recreation District. Our definition of “respect for our past” needs your vote. Vote YES on 5D, 5E, 5F.Dorothea FarrisCarbondalePitkin County commissioner
