Speak with your spending

Dear Editor: As of Nov. 8, 1,133 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq and 8,200 wounded. Iraqi children are on the TV and in the newspapers who have been severely maimed and crippled by U.S. bombs. For all of you who oppose the U.S. occupation of Iraq, the weeks of daily U.S. bombings of Fallujah and our full reign of terror on this city, I propose that we do not purchase Christmas or Hanukkah presents from any large corporate stores. Instead, buy from local merchants, make your own gifts or give a donation to a nonprofit such as the Stepstone Center in Carbondale. Let our voices be heard through our money. This is a small sacrifice so another child or adult is not killed or maimed, and no more families have to hear those words, “I regret to inform you …”Cathleen KraheCarbondale
