Speak out against Gems
Three meetings are scheduled with U.S. Rep. Jared Polis to discuss the Hidden Gems proposal. The meetings are being held in Eagle, Summit and Boulder counties. Pitkin County and the Roaring Fork Valley were not included even though it is the base for the Wilderness Workshop.
The meetings take place in Boulder, Breckenridge and Edwards. We need to show our disapproval of this proposal by attending as many of the meetings as possible. The meeting in Edwards is scheduled for June 3 at Battle Mountain High School, from 5-7 p.m.
Quote: “A majority of [attendees] must be Hidden Gems supporters in order to embolden the congressman to take up legislation, and to show the opponents [who are sure to be there] that we outnumber them,” states Wilderness Workshop’s website. The Wilderness Workshop website allows you to vote in favor of the proposal but I could not find where to vote not in favor; not very democratic of them. These meetings are probably your last chance to voice your opinion before a bill is drafted.
On Monday night, the City Council listened to ideas for each old building. However, nothing laid out what the community space would actually entail — only aspirations and gathered community comment.
