Something’s rotten at Krabloonik

Dear Editor:

Been to Krabloonik lately? It was very disturbing for me and the three kids who visited today. All the dogs were chained to the ground, with some chains frozen in the earth making it impossible for some to reach a tiny plywood box that serves as their winter home. Most starving for affection, some too scared to be approached by anyone and a few running in neurotic circles chained to a stake in the ground. Most had no fresh water.

Maybe I’m missing something romantic about dog sledding, but these dogs are simply not happy and living a miserable existence. To add insult to injury, the restaurant there serves foie gras. Out of all the inhumane and injustices we humans impose on animals, the production of foie gras is among the cruelest. Its hard to feel that animal welfare is a priority at Krabloonik while they serve the diseased livers of force-fed ducks and geese while the most of the dogs outside live, sleep and eat in their own feces.

Krabloonik should cease all operations until they can provide the dogs with a barn and humane kennel-like situation. There’s something wrong at Krabloonik, and it smells worse than money. The Aspen Skiing Company should be embarrassed with their partnership with Krabloonik. This should be addressed by the community immediately. Thank you!
