Society of grunts

Dear Editor:

In response to Mr. Fingerman’s letter regarding Mr. Mulberry and the technological consumption of society today (“Wired for a reason,” April 17, 2010, The Aspen Times): Mr. Fingerman, I only have one argument for you regarding how kids use “text lingo” for school assignments. You said “As long as they understand each other, and my Apple stock keeps going up, I don’t care how they communicate.”

Regardless of your stock portfolio, the English language is far more important that how much paper money you have (sadly, I bet you beg to differ). Language is probably one of the greatest achievements of humanity; now with modern technology it is being replaced with “LOL, BRB, etc., etc.” and slowly dumbing down society.

We evolved from grunts into a diverse vocabulary and language, spanning across the globe into so many different forms. In the time of just a few years, technology and the “popular” thing to do has been slowly turning back to grunts.

Mr. Fingerman, you may have your money, but language, education and an intellectual conversation is something that will outlast you and your precious Apple stock. How about next time you STFU or GTFO. Oh, and if you don’t understand either of those, you have two options, go ask the nearest second grader, or pull your head out of your …
