SUMMIT COUNTY ” The Summit County Search and Rescue Group launched a search Tuesday for three snowmobilers who have been missing since Sunday.

According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, the trio left for a day trip on Sunday morning and when they didn’t return on Sunday evening, their friends and family began searching for them.

Search and Rescue was notified by the brother of one of the missing parties on Monday evening, after three friends who were searching for the group became stranded at a cabin in the Elliot Ridge area near Mayhan Lake, north of Silverthorne.

Those men exited the search area at approximately midnight on Monday. Missing are John McKibben of Kremmling, Colo.; Greg Morris of Florida, and Murry Melloni of Littleton, Colo.

Weather conditions delayed the start of the search until Tuesday morning, when three teams of rescuers on snowmobiles headed into the area. Weather conditions and avalanche danger in the area remain a concern.
