Town of Snowmass grants 2017 Environmental Leadership Award to Bill Striegler
August 8, 2017
On Aug. 7, the town of Snowmass Village Environmental Advisory Board presented Bill Striegler, facilities director of the Timbers Club, with the 2017 Environmental Leadership Award. The Environmental Advisory Board also recognized Bill Striegler and the Timbers Club earlier this summer at AREDAY.
Bill Striegler was chosen among several nominees to be the sole recipient of the 2017 award for his trailblazing efforts to increase the energy efficiency of the Timbers Club, according to a statement from Travis Elliott, Assistant to the Town Manager of Snowmass Village. After implementing a series of energy-efficient upgrades in 2015, the Timbers Club realized a 55,000 kilowatt hour savings and the five-year average energy consumption for the facility is down 13 percent. This results not only in energy savings but also in significant utility bill savings for the Timbers Club and its residents.
The nomination form, submitted by Sarah Gruen of CORE, for Bill Striegler included the following about his dedication to saving energy: "Bill's decision to transition to LED lighting began before this work was cool, when selecting the right bulbs and fixtures required precision. Today, the improvements in the cost and quality of LED lights have led to more widespread adoption. That was not always the case, especially for luxury lighting as seen at the Timbers.
"We want to applaud Bill for sticking his neck out for this new energy efficient technology back in 2012, and for continuing to do so. He always has more efficiency projects on tap, with 2017 being no exception."
The Environmental Leadership Award was created in 2012 as a way to spotlight community best practices in environmental sustainability. The award is intended to not only recognize local leaders for their efforts, but spotlight their actions so other individuals and businesses in Snowmass Village can replicate them. Nominations for the 2018 award will accepted by the town starting in November. The nomination form and additional details about the selection criteria, background and past recipients can be found at http://www.tosv.com.
