Snowmass Tourism is introducing a new after-hours adventure — “Starlit Treks” — this winter season.

Playing off Snowmass’ popular “Moonlit Treks” the past two years, Starlit Treks will take place the Saturday closest to the darkest night of each month, creating optimal conditions for stargazing and constellation-watching.

The Moonlit Treks will still occur on or near the closest Saturday to the full moon each month.

“We saw so much success with the Moonlit Treks the past two years that we wanted to offer guests another chance to continue the adventure each month,” Snowmass Tourism Director Rose Abello said in a statement. “Starlit Treks give guests and locals alike the chance to see Snowmass, and the sky above Snowmass, in a whole new way.”

Similar to the Moonlit Trek, the Starlight Trek is a self-guided, 1.2-mile snowshoe or cross-country ski tour that starts at the Snowmass Cross Country Center, stops at Anderson Ranch Arts Center for a cocoa and cookie break and goes around the Snowmass Golf Course.

As part of the series, an astronomer from the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies also will be present, offering information on star patterns, planet alignments, the Milky Way and more.

New to the existing Moonlit Treks series is an optional guided tour with an ACES naturalist.

At the end of the evening, a pasta dinner and s’mores will be served at the Black Saddle Bar & Grille. The cost of dinner is $19.67 per person — a nod to Snowmass’ 50th anniversary season. Reservations are required as dinners typically sell out.

Bring your own cross-country skis, snowshoes or hiking boots. Limited snowshoe rentals are available for $10.

All treks are snow dependent and timing of each trek varies.

To make a reservation, call the Snowmass Club at 970-923-0979 and leave a message. For more information, visit http://www.gosnowmass.com/activity/moonlit-starlit-treks.
