Snowmass Planapalooza kicks off Thursday
What does Snowmass Village want to be when it grows up?
The town’s quest to answer this $200,000 question continues this week and next with Plan Snowmass’ “Planapalooza.”
The six-day event will feature a series of focus groups and presentations, starting with a “speed planning” workshop at the Snowmass Recreation Center at 5 p.m. Thursday.
Throughout Friday and Saturday morning, one-hour focus groups on the following topics will take place at Town Hall:
Public Infrastructure Services, 9 a.m.
Built Environment and Design, 10:30 a.m.
Business, Tourism and the Economy, 2:30 p.m.
Transportation, Mobility and Parking, 4 p.m.
Housing and Lodging, 5:30 p.m.
Natural Environment and Sustainability, 9 a.m.
Planning Commission, 10:30 a.m.
From 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday at Town Hall, a plan team will review ideas heard throughout the process and check that it is on the right track.
The closing presentation, whereby the plan team will again review community members’ and participants’ feedback, is slated for 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Snowmass Recreation Center.
Snowmass Community Development Director Julie Ann Woods said the previous Plan Snowmass events, which altogether attracted more than 200 attendees, helped identify values related to open space and trails, additional employee housing and preserving Snowmass’ “small-town character,” according to a town statement about the event.
“Up to this point, we’ve just been listening to everyone,” Woods said. “At Planapalooza, we will present some ideas and principles for everybody to consider, and it will be the first chance for everyone to tell us if we heard them right.
“We’re really excited to see what people think.”
