Snowmass history: Snowmobile regata of 1968
“Snowmobile Regata is three-day event,” the Snowmass Villager announced in February 1968. “The Snowmobile Regata slated for Snowmass-at-Aspen Feb. 9-11 will host Rocky Mountain snowmobilers for a weekend of serious and social competition in snow country’s fastest growing sport. Over 100 entries are expected. The sanctioned snowmasher cross-country event Saturday, Feb. 10 will carry prizes at more than $1,200 and there is a $1,000 plus purse for division among top finishers of three sanctioned events on Sunday: a speed-oval race, obstacle race, and a relay race. The events are sanctioned by the Rocky Mountain Snowmobile Assn. The three-day event will be run on a ticket system. Aside from entry fees for the sanctioned events of $15 per event, book of six tickets for other events will be sold for $15. Fun contests scheduled are a Powder Puff Rallye for women treasure hunt, short obstacle race and a Fox and Goose chase.”

At the start of the 2023-2024 ski season, Mone Anthan set an ambitious goal for himself: uphill 85 times for his 85th birthday. By the time his birthday came on March 15, he had surpassed 85 uphills and was shooting for 100.
