January 17, 2018
"Heavy snowfall breaks record," The Aspen Times reported on Jan. 17, 1976 (42 years ago today). "The rate of snowfall began more slowly this winter than in other years, but once it got going it broke a seven-year record. From Monday, Dec. 24 through Thursday, Jan. 10, 57 inches of snow fell….On Sunday, Dec. 30, 13 inches of snow fell during the 24-hour period which constituted the heaviest snowfall recorded since the Forest Service began daily measuring seven years ago at the Sundeck on Aspen Mountain."
