Starting Oct. 3, an installation team hired by Portraits of Hope will begin removing the adhesive flower murals on area fire and rescue vehicles, including those of the Snowmass Wildcat Fire Protection District, shown here. The murals were painted by hospitalized children in Denver and Los Angeles and students from the Roaring Fork Valley. The fleets of Snowmass fire, Aspen Volunteer Fire District, Aspen Ambulance District and Mountain Rescue Aspen donned the artwork all summer. The murals have to be removed while temperatures are still above a certain level, said co-founder Bernie Massey. Portraits of Hope plans to donate any pieces that can be salvaged to participating groups to auction off.
