Letter: Community makes tree lighting happen
December 17, 2013
To the wonderful community of Snowmass Village:
Thank you all for helping us light up the night at Snowmass Village's inaugural Tree Lighting Ceremony on Dec. 8. Christmas carolers, cookies, hot cocoa, a blazing fire and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus riding atop a ladder truck courtesy of the Snowmass Wildcat Fire Protection District were a great lead-up to the lighting of more than 20 trees that line Brush Creek Road and Snowmass Chapel. What a beautiful holiday sight! And topping it all off was a truly magical performance of Handel's "Messiah" by the 100-member-strong Aspen Choral Society.
We would like to thank all those who donated money to help make this community tree lighting possible. If you see them about town, please be sure to thank them: Related/Snowmass Hospitality, the town of Snowmass Village (including Kelly Vaughn, Fred Brodsky and Beth Albert), Alpine Bank, Sunrise Carpet Cleaning, Clark's Market, Robyn Scott Interior Designs, Anderson Ranch, Dr. Karina Redko, Chuck and Marni Bond, Aspen Choral Society in memory of Ray Vincent Adams, and Heather and Gary Beach in memory of Jack Cherry Shanklin.
Jeff Sivess and his crew at Driftbusters/Snowmass Lawn & Plant spent countless hours stringing the lights along Brush Creek Road, and Chris Tyler's Aspen Lawn and Holiday Lights scaled to new heights in subzero temperatures in the dark to light the two largest trees at the entrance to Snowmass Chapel. These guys were amazing to work with, and we are so grateful. Dani Brodsky, lighting pro extraordinaire, was invaluable in putting all the pieces together, and vocalists Sarah Stevens and Ben Belinski jumped in at the last minute to lead the 200-plus people in Christmas carols.
But wait — there's more! Congratulations are in order to Snowmass residents Jenny Roberts and Barbara Hoerr, who each took first place in the cookie contest in their divisions. Thank you to Mountain Chalet and Snowmass Hospitality for the grand-prize awards.
It takes a village to light up the night! Thank you, Snowmass!
