History: Busy days ahead

“The intercept parking lot for day skiers — a portion of which is shown here with the Snowmass slopes in the background — was functioning well last weekend, according to Town Manager John Young. Young said more than 8,500 skiers were on the slopes, but the town remained uncongested as people left their cars in the lot and rode shuttle buses to the slopes,” stated a caption in the Jan. 10, 1980, Aspen Times. The intercept parking lot pictured here, now known as the Rodeo Lot, is home to the Snowmass Rodeo and Snowmass Recreation Center and is still used today as a day-skier parking lot. While much has changed since 1980, so much remains the same. Photograph by Bill Rollins.
