Business as Usual: 81615 has everything Snowmass
December 17, 2014
Editor's Note: Business as Usual is a series highlighting local businesses in Snowmass Village. It is published weekly in the Snowmass Sun.
After moving here in 1996, Reed Lewis worked multiple jobs in order to make a living and be able to stay. He bought the Daly Bottle Shop in 2001, and in true entrepreneurial fashion has opened two others since — Grain and 81615 T-Shirt and Gift, which is a good place to find last-minute holiday presents.
Snowmass Sun: How did your business start?
Reed Lewis: I started 81615 four years ago. The economy was beginning to show signs of creeping back in the right direction, and I decided to resurrect a business (Resortworks) that had basically been abandoned by the previous owners.
SS: What services or goods do you sell?
RL: 81615 T-Shirt and Gift is exactly that. We have great T-shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, hats and other resort wear, as well as unique gifts like leather-bound journals, O loves M bags, "The Story of Snowmass" and other coffee-table books, barnwood picture frames and magnets/stickers/pins/ornaments. We also carry a variety of snacks, beverages and sundries.

SS: What makes your business unique?
RL: We are unique in the fact that we are locally owned and operated in an increasingly corporate environment. We work diligently to ensure we have great quality and also strive to support local artists (Free Time Goods, O loves M, Orzech Ornaments) and Colorado companies (Jewelry by Marks, Ouray, Kind Design Clothing).
SS: Who is your primary clientele?
RL: Our primary clientele are guests to the resort, part-time residents, as well as locals, and we really do have something for everyone. Our selection is classic and appeals to anyone who finds themselves in Snowmass Village.
SS: What is the best thing about running a business in Snowmass?
RL: Our favorite thing about running a business in the village is the interaction with the people. It's a small community, and we enjoy seeing the same people year after year. And, of course, we are pretty close to some of the best skiing on the continent!
