Aspen Camp ropes course near completion
The Aspen Camp for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, in partnership with Roaring Fork Leadership, is nearing completion of a low ropes–course installation on its grounds.
The Aspen Camp lost its previous ropes courses (high and low) in a windstorm last spring, prompting Executive Director Lesa Thomas to approach Roaring Fork Leadership for assistance. A team from the 2012-13 Roaring Fork Leadership class assisted in planning and installing a new low ropes course, managing course design and community outreach and hiring ropes-course expert Adventure Education to complete construction and staff training.
“We are thrilled that we will soon unveil a new, exciting feature to offer both our campers and community groups,” Thomas said. “Ropes courses have been shown to build skill, confidence and teamwork while being incredibly enjoyable.”
The public is invited to assist with the completion of the course during the Aspen Camp’s Volunteer Weekend on May 25 and 26. For more information on Aspen Camp, the Volunteer Weekend or the new low ropes course, visit www.aspencamp.org or call 970-923-2511.
