Snowmass draws experts on healthy living

A roster of wellness experts will gather in Snowmass Village to discuss the latest philosophies and practices of healthy living – from cuisine to culture to cancer – during the Snowmass Wellness Experience July 15-17.”Wellness has so many different elements that can appeal to people, and this event reflects that diversity,” said Susan Hamley, Snowmass Village director of marketing.In addition to 35 workshops and lectures by various wellness experts, several best-selling authors will be on hand to discuss a broad range of subjects. They include: n Deepak Chopra, author of more than 36 books, including “The Spontaneous Fulfillment of Desire” and his latest, “Peace Is the Way.” Burton Goldberg, author of “Alternative Medicine: The Definitive Guide” and 17 other books. Karen Salmansohn, whose writings include “How to Be Happy, Dammit.” Ed and Deb Shapiro, the authors of 15 books on personal development, meditation and social action. Dr. Len Horowitz, author of “Emerging Viruses: AIDS & Ebola – Nature, Accident or Intentional?” In 1999, Horowitz received the Author of the Year Award from the World Natural Health Organization. Marc Ian Barasch, a writer and editor whose latest work is “Field Notes on the Compassionate Life.” His “Healing Dreams” won the Nautilus Award for Best Psychology Title in 2001 and an earlier work – “Remarkable Recovery” – was a national best seller, as well. Dr. Joan Borysenko is a Harvard behavioral expert who is at the forefront of the mind-body revolution. She has written 11 books on healing, combining scholarly wisdom with the language of the heart. Dr. Elliot Dacher has written “Whole Healing” and “Intentional Healing” and is a pioneer in the field of emerging medicine, according to conference organizers.The event will also feature two films. “Curing Cancer – The Best of Both Worlds” is a 90-minute documentary that shows how, by using the best of conventional and alternative medicine, cancer can be reversed. Snowmass Wellness Experience speaker Burton Goldberg takes part in the film.”Ordinary People – Extraordinary Lives … from Fear to Faith” was produced by Colorado’s Rosa Bielec and Annalisa Hodgkins, who had no prior movie experience. The eight-minute short version won a juried award for outstanding film and cinematography at Aspen Shortsfest 2005. The expanded, 50-minute documentary to be shown at the conference deals with overcoming fear, developing personal faith, living life to the fullest and being present within the mystery of life.The Snowmass Wellness Experience covers topics ranging from how to write a living will to dealing with Alzheimer’s, and from Chinese herbology to stress-free living. In addition to speakers and movies, the event will offer 16 different forms of yoga and fitness classes, healthy-cooking demonstrations, guided medicinal plant and nature hikes, a vendor village featuring products and hands-on exhibitors and pavilion tents dedicated to massage, nutrition, yoga and health. Aspen Valley Hospital will hold classes and health screenings too.Tickets range from $20 for a pavilion pass with access to various lectures and workshops to a $450 all-inclusive, preferred seating weekend pass that includes special sessions with Chopra and other keynote speakers.
