SNOWMASS VILLAGE – With approval from the Snowmass Village Town Council, the Snowmass Chili Pepper and Brew Fest will move down to Town Park this summer. The council on Monday night also approved camping for as many as 300 people on town property during the event, which has been rebranded as the Snowmass Mammoth Festival. The council gave informal approval for the Marketing, Group Sales & Events Board to revamp the event in December, including hiring Steve Gumble Productions to manage it. Representatives from Steve Gumble Productions, which produces the Telluride Blues and Brews Festival, made a presentation at Monday’s council meeting. The festival will take place primarily on the soccer field with campers on the baseball field. The event still will involve chili and beer tastings, but it also will have a bigger music element, with nine or more bands performing throughout the two days. One concern repeated by council members was the impact to retail and lodging by moving the event away from the commercial cores and allowing camping. Bill Kight, marketing director for Steve Gumble Productions, said allowing people to camp introduces them to Snowmass at a lower rate and that those same people eventually become hotel guests. “We’re targeting a younger demographic to kind of grow them with the region,” he said. Courtney McClary, director of operations at Steve Gumble Productions, also said the company wants to arrange some after-hours events in Snowmass venues.
