Snowmass Canyon fire is out
Aspen, CO Colorado
SNOWMASS CANYON – A wildfire on the south side of Highway 82 in Snowmass Canyon has been extinguished and the upvalley lanes have been reopened to traffic.
Firefighters were called to the scene at about 1 p.m. The incident was declared “terminated” shortly before 2 p.m. and fire crews have left the scene, according to the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office.
The fire forced the closure of the right-hand, upvalley lane initially, and then both lanes, at the Old Snowmass intersection.
Smoke and flames were reported along about a half-mile stretch, on the south side of the highway. Both Aspen and Basalt firefighters responded.
