Snowmass board gets busy

After taking most of May off, the Snowmass Village Town Council faces a daunting agenda when it reconvenes today.

Proposed land-use applications comprise the bulk of both the council’s work session and regular meeting schedule.

Work session items include: a proposal for additional townhomes on Owl Creek Road, a residential unit at Krabloonik, and a discussion of engineering work and cost estimates for a proposed mall transit plaza.

In its final development application, the Snowmass Land Co. is proposing 16 new townhomes, an expansion of Anderson Ranch, up to nine holes of golf at Horse Ranch and a conveyance of about 160 acres of land to the town.

At Krabloonik, a restaurant and dog-sledding operation, the owner is asking to exchange his right to expand commercially for one or two single-family residential units on the property instead.

Wildlife reports from the Aspen Skiing Co. and the Snowmass Land Co. are also scheduled during the work session.

On the agenda for the regular meeting is the second phase of redevelopment at the Snowmass Club, summer activity permits and expansion proposals for the Timberline Condominiums.

Phase two of the Snowmass Club’s redevelopment will feature 30 new fractional-ownership condominiums, upgrading the golf course, a new clubhouse, an indoor tennis facility, improved parking on the premises and surrounding street upgrades.

Skico and Capitol Peak Outfitters will apply for a temporary-use permit to operate horseback riding during the summer months.

There will also be a progress report on the town’s excise tax and an executive session on land purchase negotiations for the rodeo grounds.

Weak 2020 water year comes to a conclusion


The blizzards of January and February seem like distant dreams to Colorado water managers. What started as a promising year for water supply — with above-average snowpack as of April 1 — ended Sept. 30 with the entire state in some level of drought.
