Snowmass – a summer mecca

Aspen Times writer

Dear Editor:Kudos to Susan Hamley, Josh Behrman, and everyone involved in staging the mountain bike nationals race here last weekend. This was a fantastic event that brought thousands of people to the area and will only grow if nurtured properly. Let’s build on the success of this event, Blast the Mass, and the Mountain Boarding Nationals to make Snowmass the summer mecca for mountain bikes, music, and mountain boards! Riders and spectators alike praised our excellent trails and friendly community. Wouldn’t it be cool if the finish ended at a commercial core with bars and restaurants instead of at a dead end of old administration and maintenance sheds? The trails crew and rangers do an enormous amount of incredible work on very little funding (anyone seen the new bridges?) and most of it goes unnoticed. We have some of the best trails in the state, lifts to service them and every reason to promote Snowmass as a destination resort for those activities. Let’s work to create an environment where spending a day playing on the hill in the summer is just like a spending a day on the hill in the winter (only warmer). As practically every business owner in the mall saw this weekend, even dirtbags spend money freely when confronted with this much fun!Scott CallihamMagic Buzz Coffee and Chai Co.
