Snowball successes

Dear Editor:

The first annual Snowball Softball Recreation Tournament, organized by the Snowmass Recreation Department, was held on Sunday, Feb. 22. A total of five teams registered for the unique tournament and showed up under cloudy but very warm skies.

The unlucky first two teams to play managed to track out some on the base-running lanes and got the games away. It was funny to see how a batter could hit a deep fly ball to the outfield but still manage to get thrown out at first base. Thank you to all participants and the teams; The Silvertree Hotel, wRec’d, Bouma Corp, Zane’s Tavern and Team Zip, for making the day a blast to be a part of. The combined teams of Zanes/Zip took home the title, unfortunately the trophy melted as the day progressed. Cheers to Zane’s Tavern for the after-party for all players to gather and share their stories.

Look out for this tournament next year on the last weekend of February; it will be back bigger than ever. We are now accepting coed teams for the summer coed league in Snowmass, to be held on Tuesday nights. Get in early so you don’t miss out on the fun. Please call me at 922-2240 if you would like to see any photos or videos of the event; they will be posted on our website, http://www.snowmassrecreation.com.
