There’s something to be said for the endless blue skies that have become the norm this past week, but I miss the snow. We were spoiled two weeks ago when nearly two feet of fresh blanketed our cars and our ski slopes. I remember one morning trying to negotiate a pile of snow that obstructed the walkway of my apartment complex and feeling, at least for a moment, like I was scaling Everest. I yearn for those knee-deep, untouched powder stashes in the trees on the backside of Bell Mountain. I yearn for those days when the only time I stop to take a breath is when I ride the couch or stop in the Sundeck restroom to run my snow-drenched goggles under the hand warmer.Snow totals in Aspen have exceeded 100 inches this season, according to Colorado Ski Country. I’m yearning for 100 more. The zeroes under precipitation totals for the last seven days on aspensnowmass.com frustrate me.There’s snow – albeit not 2 feet – in our future, according to snowforecast.com prognostications. Some isolated showers may develop this afternoon and evening as temperatures fall, and we can expect anywhere from 3-5 inches. Two to four additional inches could fall Monday morning and afternoon. As far as the winter outlook, snowforecast.com projects we’ll see more snowfall than average this month. That trend could continue in early 2007.Call me selfish, but I’m looking ahead, not behind. The Aspen Times, Aspen, Colo.
