ASPEN ” Another spring storm is expected to bring snow to western Colorado, starting Wednesday evening. A winter weather advisory is in effect for an area that includes Aspen and Snowmass.

A rain/snow mix that will turn entirely to snow is forecast Wednesday night as a cold front passes through, but the heaviest snow will fall Thursday, according to the National Weather Service office in Grand Junction. The winter weather advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. Wednesday to midnight on Thursday.

Total accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are forecast, with locally higher amounts possible, according to the weather service. Gusty winds will create areas of blowing and drifting snow over high, exposed terrain, the service warned.

The snow will bring to an end a brief respite from winter in Aspen. The last snowstorm moved out Saturday night after a week of snowfall on local ski slopes. Sunny or partly sunny skies and warmer temperatures prevailed into Wednesday, though clouds and gusty winds arrived Wednesday afternoon in advance of the latest weather system.
