Snow back in Aspen forecast

ASPEN ” Snow is expected to return to the Colorado mountains Friday, including the Aspen area, according to the National Weather Service.

A swath of the northern and central mountains, including Aspen, Snowmass, Vail and Steamboat, are under a winter storm watch that will be in effect from late Thursday through Saturday afternoon, the weather service said.

Total snow accumulations of a foot or more are possible by Saturday, with most of it falling on Friday afternoon. Some rain may mix briefly with the snow at lower elevations, according to the weather service.



In Aspen, Winter X Games fans should be treated to relatively mild weekend temperatures along with what will hopefully be snow rather than rain.

Aspen’s forecast calls for cloudy skies Thursday afternoon, with highs of 35 to 45. Snow is likely after midnight, with 1 to 3 inches of accumulation. Friday brings a 70 percent chance of snow, with possible accumulations of 4 to 7 inches, and highs of 25 to 35, according to the weather service.




On Saturday, snow is likely, with another 2 to 4 inches possible, along with highs of 25 to 35.

On Sunday, the weather service is calling for a 30 percent chance of snow, again with highs of 25 to 35.
