Smooth-running River Days

Dear Editor:

As Wendy Woo and the Woo! Band concluded the 11th annual River Days, vendors, visitors, sponsors and locals alike all agreed how great it was to be a part of River Days.

Despite some rain, local merchants brought their businesses out onto Midland Avenue to share the road with the out-of-town pop-up shops for the people of Basalt to enjoy. The response from a number of local merchants and volunteers was that “River Days couldn’t have run smoother.”

The River Days Parade really captured Basalt’s beauty in the theme “Basalt is Blooming.” Teri Christensen conducted a well-orchestrated parade showcasing the home town feeling of Basalt, and there was an entertaining classic car show and a heart-felt honor for Marg Darrein, the “Queen of Basalt.”

Bands such as locals Big Daddy Lee and The King Bees, and Woo’s ensemble really gave River Days a kick for the evening entertainment. River Days was a great event to incorporate the history of the town, where longtime locals can celebrate with bright-eyed newcomers. The Basalt chamber would like to give a big thanks to the town of Basalt, Public Works, Carbondale Mountain Fair, Midland merchants, the Basalt Police and Fire departments, all of our volunteers and our sponsors.
