Smiles for the Mother’s Day Mile

Dear Editor:What a fantastic time we had at the seventh Annual Mother’s Day Mile this year. Pies to eat, face painting, massages, gift baskets, crafts and of course some fantastic runners and walkers. There were so many people who made this race a success. First of all, we want to thank everyone who registered (more than 521), all the volunteers (more than 60), and our faithful sponsor, Glenwood Medical Associates. Together you helped us raise more than $12,000 for programs to eliminate domestic violence in our community because every home deserves to be a safe home.It takes a community to produce a fun-filled memorable event, and we certainly had a tremendous amount of support from our other sponsors: Schmueser Gordon Meyer, Post Independent, Innermountain Mountain Distributing, Richard & Marianne Reinisch Foundation, Valley View Hospital, Something Sweet Candy Plus, Mountain Parent Magazine and the Property Shop.Special thank-you to all the wonderful and beautiful silent auction baskets that were donated to the Advocate Safehouse Project for the Mother’s Day Mile. Special thanks to Maureen Nuckols and Mike Wells for their entertaining color commentary and announcement skills throughout the day. Even the rain couldn’t dampen their cheery chitchat. We’d like to mention thanks to other important community supporters: Colorado Mountain College, Print Works, GSHS National Honor Society students, Jo Bershenyi, PEO – Chapters AO & FY, Glenwood Springs Police Department, Glenwood Springs Public Works, and all the pie bakers.Above and beyond thanks to the Advocate Safehouse Project’s board of directors and their families for their hours of planning and producing the Mother’s Day Mile.Peace begins at home and on the starting line of the Mother’s Day Mile! We remain committed to making our community a safer place to live for men, women and children. See you next year.Holly Graubins, race directorJulie Olson, executive directorAdvocate Safehouse Project
