Small tax, big benefit
I like taxes about as much as the next person, but I hope Pitkin County voters will join me in supporting the Healthy Community Fund.
After looking at my property tax bill, I saw that I pay much more in property taxes to many other agencies than I will to the Healthy Community Fund. That includes the school district, Colorado Mountain College, the county, the city, hospital, fire district, library and open space. All are valuable, but the smaller amount we will pay for the Healthy Community Fund will take care of the people that human beings have always tried to help.
Helping people in need locally makes me feel like we have a good community and care for those less fortunate than ourselves. I hope there will be overwhelming support for this small tax to help others.

The property tax overcharge refunds are in the hands of Basalt residents. A new civic organization is cranking up its campaign to have recipients contribute some or all of their refunds to the Basalt Gives effort to benefit midvalley-serving nonprofits.
