Slideshow: Aspen gets blanketed in snow

People woke up to a snowy scene in Aspen Thursday morning after a storm brought the first real snowfall of the season. There were several inches of heavy, wet snow on the ground on the east side of town, making for a colorful background against the remaining autumn leaves.

The snow forecasting site reported somewhere between 2 to 4 inches at Aspen Highlands. The forecast heading into the weekend includes dry, warmer weather.

The next chance for cooler weather and snow in Colorado is around the middle of the month, forecaster Joel Gratz wrote in his morning report. The National Weather Service is forecasting sunny skies with a high of 56 in Aspen on Friday, and highs in the mid-60s on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
