Sledder injured in ride on Little Nell

A New Hampshire woman suffered serious injuries in a sleddingaccident on Aspen Mountain early Thursday morning.According to the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office, Katherine Schofield,21, was sledding on the Little Nell run with a group of friends,when she headed into a stand of trees and suffered facial injuries.She was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.A spokesperson at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction said Schofieldwas in “fair condition” Thursday afternoon. The spokesperson wouldnot comment on the nature of her injuries.Members of Mountain Rescue-Aspen stabilized Schofield on the mountainand transported her down in a Snocat, provided by the Aspen SkiingCo., according to the sheriff’s report.Schofield was taken to Aspen Valley Hospital, where she remaineduntil about 11 a.m. Thursday, at which time she was transferredto St. Mary’s Hospital.A spokesperson at Aspen Valley Hospital said Schofield had sustaineda “closed head injury.”
