Skye Skinner resigning from ED post at COMPASS

Skye Skinner is resigning as executive director of COMPASS, the school announced Wednesday.

Skinner is in her 22nd year with COMPASS, the nonprofit organization that operates Aspen Community School and Carbondale Community School, both of which are public K-8 charter schools.

She will step down in June.

“Skye has done an exemplary job as executive director,” said Melanie Muss, COMPASS board president. “As a result of her leadership, the schools are recognized across the state for academic success, the campuses are state of the art and the nonprofit organization itself is financially sound and sustainable. We will miss Skye greatly and will honor the legacy of her hard work by working together for a smooth transition.”

In a statement, Skinner said she is “leaving for purely positive and personal reasons — it’s the right time in my life and also in the evolution of COMPASS. This work, and most of all being a member of this community, has been soul food and a great privilege. I will always remember this chapter of my life with deep gratitude and sincere pride.”

Jim Gilchrist, principal of the Aspen Community School, said, “Though her shoes are too large to fill, this is an incredible opportunity for Skye’s successor to build on all that has been accomplished. COMPASS is standing on solid ground that is well fertilized for fresh ideas.”

COMPASS is beginning a regional search for candidates to succeed Skinner. Letters of interest and resumes may be sent to
