Skiers spikers win home finale

The Aspen volleyball team knocked off Gunnison in five games at home Saturday to win its final regular season match.The win over the Cowboys came after a three-game sweep of Olathe Friday night. Next up for the Skiers (9-9, 6-6) is the district tournament this Saturday in Grand Junction.The Skiers won the first two games of Saturday’s match, only to drop the next two and face a sudden-death tiebreaker. In the fith game, Aspen and Gunnison played to a 10-10 tie before the Skiers pulled out the victory.”The first two games, they played really well,” Aspen coach Sarah Benson said. “The second two games, it was the same as always. We had mental errors and a bunch of miscommunication.”With the win, Aspen ties Gunnison for fourth place in the final 3A Slope standings.
