Skier dies after falling, sliding at Silverton

SILVERTON, Colo – Authorities say a skier has died after falling and sliding about 1,500 feet at the Silverton Mountain ski resort.

The Durango Herald reports that 25-year-old Sydney Elizabeth Owens of Denver died Saturday.

San Juan County Undersheriff Kristine Burns says the accident occurred on the Riff Run during a guided ski tour by Silverton Mountain employees.

Burns says emergency personnel arrived immediately but were unable to revive Owens.
