Skico hires new general manager for Little Nell Hotel

Staff report

Simon Chen has been appointed general manager of The Little Nell Hotel, Aspen Skiing Co. announced Thursday.

Chen has been the general manager at Rancho Valencia Resort and Spa in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., since 2011. He oversaw a total renovation and repositioning of this widely acclaimed resort. He studied at the Hotel School at Intercontinental in Sydney and has been in the hospitality business since 1990, working for independent hotels as well as the Ritz-Carlton in locations around the world, including mountain properties such as Bachelor Gulch, Telluride and Vail. Chen worked at The Little Nell in the mid-1990s as front-office manager and assistant guest-services director.

“I am excited and honored to be rejoining the team at The Little Nell,” Chen said in a prepared statement. “As a hotelier this is a dream come true to have the opportunity to oversee one of the world’s most iconic ski hotels.”

Skico President and CEO Mike Kaplan said there was a great deal of interest in the position.

“Simon stood out not only because he has a broad spectrum of experience but because of his genuine passion for hospitality and the Aspen way of life. We are excited to expand upon the tradition of excellence that is at the core of The Little Nell brand,” he said in the prepared statement.
