Silver Queen Gondola repairs made

Staff report

Aspen’s Silver Queen Gondola was down Saturday afternoon for about an hour due to a mechanical issue.

Aspen Skiing Co. spokesman Jeff Hanle said repairs were underway and the gondola would reopen around 4:15 p.m. The ski day is over at that time, but anyone up top at the Sundeck would be able to download.

The issue was a sheave assembly problem, Hanle said. A sheave is a metal wheel, lined with a special type of rubber, which either supports or depresses the haul rope, according to skilifts.org, a technical ski lift industry website.

The gondola reopened shortly after 4 p.m.
